When you feel like you are at a standstill in life, the raido rune can help you regain momentum towards your goals. A rhythmic rune that symbolizes music, dance and poetry. The raido rune is the fifth rune in the Elder Futhark ancient runic alphabet, and the fifth in the first aett family runes.

Raido Rune Meaning

The meaning behind the raido rune is “ride”. Mainly referring to moving forward, the wheel turning in the right direction at the right time. Representing the many cycles of the universe. Always moving and always changing.

Names:

  • Raidho: wagon
  • Raidha: wagon, ride
  • Rádh: a riding, way
  • Reidh: riding, chariot

Some believe that the raido rune is associated with the Norse God Thor’s chariot. Although historians do believe that the raido rune represents the journey one takes through the Nine Worlds of Yggdrasill.

Other meanings behind this rune are traveling, action, and messenger. The messenger meaning is believed to be referring to how messages were sent and received. In times before vehicles, news got around by couriers on horseback. They traveled near and far to spread letters and news to others.

Life is a journey in the physical and spiritual sense. Raido is there to help guide us down the right path or warn us when we need to take a second to evaluate and maybe make small changes to redirect our path in the right direction. It also reminds us to look within ourselves. To self-heal or to make changes within oneself.

Using the Raido Rune

There are many uses for the raido rune. Commonly used as a talisman by travelers for luck and protection. Keep this talisman in your car, attached to your luggage, or on your keys. This rune can also be used in spiritual travel. Meditate with this rune to guide you and look within yourself on any inner struggles or obstacles that may be holding you back and stopping you from reaching your true potential.

Use the raido rune to help achieve your goals faster. Let it remind you that everything is always changing and moving forward. When you feel like you cannot progress further, take some time to reevaluate your intentions for your goals, and be open to shifting and making changes to progress further.

Journey through your magical workings with this rune.

  • Use raido during rituals to strengthen the ability to gain access into your inner self and what your inner voice is trying to tell you.
  • Combine with music, dance or poetry for some shadow work. Connect with your inner self and use raido to help work through any blockages you may have.

Rune Casting

Just like in tarot, when you cast your runes upon a surface, how they land is how you read them. There is an upright and a reverse. Upright meaning the symbol is facing the right direction. When its reversed, this means that the symbol is in an upside-down direction.

What do these rune positions mean?

Upright

Change, cycles, journey, evolution, new beginnings

Getting raido in the upright position means that you are currently on the path you need to be on. You have momentum. The ending of your goal can be seen, but you still have more to do.

The raido rune could also be pushing you to travel. Maybe you need to relocate for a new job, or maybe you have been so stressed that a change of scenery would be beneficial to your mental health.

Reverse

Stagnant, crisis, possible end or death, obstacles, procrastination

Getting the raido rune in reverse may seem like a downer, but it can be used to embrace new opportunities. Sometimes taking a step back can give you some perspective on where you want to be and where you are going.

This is a time for patience. Trying to push past any obstacles you may be experiencing physically or mentally can cause you to have setbacks from what you wish to accomplish.
