Runes are one of the many ways one can do divination. Like with tarot cards, each rune has a specific symbol on each piece, where each symbol means something different. The fehu rune is the first rune of the elder futhark alphabet, one of the oldest alphabets, and the first rune in the first aett family runes. The first aett is associated with Freyja.

Other Names: Fe, Feh, Feoh, Frey

elder futhark alphabet

Fehu (fey-hu) is associated with wealth, fertility, power, growth, love, new beginnings, and luck. Although it does associate with money, the main wealth that this rune represents has nothing to do with money at all.

Fehu Rune Meaning

The meaning behind the fehu rune is the wealth in your life. Not always money riches, but wealth in other areas. Fehu is about knowing that a well lived life and hard work is what true wealth is. Using what you have to help and benefit others. This could mean physical things, but it could also be emotional things as well.

Learning to be grateful for the abundance in one’s life. I know gratitude is something we all should be doing every day, and some do (I am not one of them), but I also know that sometimes it can be a hard thing to remember. Especially when life has been throwing curve balls at you. This rune is a perfect reminder to always look beyond what is happening around you and to focus on what you have.

Ancient Meaning

In ancient times, the fehu rune was associated to cattle which was a staple in the lives of many. Especially for the Celts and Germanic tribes. They were used as money and as food. A cow could be the difference between life and death for families and were considered very valuable.

Associated with the Norse God and Goddess Freyr and Freyja. These Gods represent fertility of the land and all the living creatures that inhabit the lands. Freyr’s animal correspondence is the deer, which is why the fehu rune looks a lot like an antler.

Using the Fehu Rune Symbol

There are many ways you can use the Fehu symbol. One of the most popular ways to use it is by drawing it. You can draw it on yourself or on an item. For example, draw this symbol on your garden pots. Use the power from this symbol to help encourage your plants to grow and flourish.

Another way you could use this symbol is by making a talisman. Are you looking to increase your wealth? Take the fehu talisman and carry it in your pocket, purse or wallet.

Have a ritual. Use this rune in the ritual you are performing. Like with many rituals, make sure you are specific to what it is that want to achieve. If you are not specific enough, things may not go as planned.

I know we all feel like we could be more productive on a day-to-day basis. This could be aimed towards money, spirituality, creativity, fertility, health or getting work done. Let this rune be the reminder to push through the hard times and know that your determination and hard work will pay off.

Rune Casting

Just like in tarot, when you cast your runes upon a surface, how they land is how you read them. There is an upright and a reverse. Upright meaning the symbol is facing the right direction. When its reversed, this means that the symbol is in an upside down direction.

What do these rune positions mean?

Upright

Positive, success, opportunity, balance, achieving goals

Keep moving forward and keep doing what it is you are doing. Whatever it is that you are doing, you are doing it right and you are on the right path.

Reverse

Caution, missed opportunities or delays, loss

Time to take a step back and reevaluate your situation.
