It’s almost here, and I know you can feel it. I know I can feel it. Even those who are still drowning in snow, we all know that Spring is just around the corner and Persephone is back to bring life to the lands. The Worm Moon is the name of the full moon in March. Also known as the last full moon of Winter.

As we all awaken from our hibernation, the Worm Moon reminds us that growth is a slow process. Nature takes her time to make sure that she succeeds in providing us with new life. It takes time for grass to sprout up under the damp, dead brush left from the Fall season. Which means do not rush yourself into your personal growths you have set for the new year.

Now is the time to take those goals and plans you hopefully set back during Imbolc season and begin to start working towards those goals and aspirations. If your goal is to grow a garden this year, researching your zone and which plants you want to start growing in your garden is a great start. Then moving up into starting seeds indoors. Taking one thing at a time and building it up one step at a time.

Worm Moon Meaning

The meaning behind the Worm Moon is commonly said to come from the rise of the earthworms in the ground. As temperatures begin to rise, mother nature begins to awaken, bringing new life. With the rise of the earthworms, this means that there is a great first food supply for robins and other birds.

However, even though this meaning behind the name of the Worm Moon makes sense, it actually has a different meaning. According to the Dakota tribes, as well as other Native American tribes, the term “worm” is used to describe a type of larvae that emerges from the bark of trees, coming out during the thaw of the winter season.

There are many different names to describe March’s full moon. All with names that surround the ending of winter and the beginning of summer.

Worm Moon Spiritual Meaning

By the time March has rolled around in the Northern Hemisphere, we are all ready for winter to kick rocks and Spring to come forth.

Spring energy is a positive one. Its bright and vibrant, full of inspiration and opportunity. Now is the time to learn and grow in and around you. Allow yourself to fill up with the power of the Worm Moon to guide you.

This could be to help you move on from past grudges, or to let go of individuals who may be holding you back from your full potential. It is a new year full of new opportunities.

The Blood Moon

Have you heard of the Blood Moon? This is another name for March’s full moon due to the bright and vibrant red color the moon displays for a short period of time during this Full Moon event.

What is the Blood Moon

The Blood Moon is known as a total lunar eclipse. This is where the Earth lines up in the middle of the Sun and the Moon, blocking the moon from sunlight. Lunar eclipses only happen during a full moon, however not every full moon.

The moon does not always line up between the sun and the moon, so the Earth is unable to block the sunlight causing the reddish color during the total eclipse.

When is the next Blood Moon?

The next Blood Moon to be seen from North America will be March 3-4, 2026
