As a beginner witch you may want to figure out what type of witch you are. When starting something new like witchcraft, it can be hard to know where you fit in. Everything is new and you’re unsure what is going to call to you. This makes the eclectic witch type the best for beginners. The flexibility you receive as an eclectic witch allows you to experiment with different methods of witchcraft and help you find a particular path. Or you may even wish to stay as an eclectic witch.

What is an Eclectic Witch?

The term eclectic means to derive style, ideas or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources. And that is what an eclectic witch is. A personal practice that is true to you and no one else. Where you do a little bit of everything, not sticking to a particular witch type but dabbling around and figuring out what fits true to yourself.

Eclectic witches are one of the most popular types of witch in modern times. Many like to follow this path because of the complete freedom it allows. There are no rules when you are an eclectic witch. No matter what magic choice you choose whether it be white or black magic. Majority of modern eclectic witches choose to follow the no harm rule. But as an eclectic witch, you run the show and you choose what you want.

There are so many perks to being eclectic besides the freedom it brings to your craft. The creativity it allows should be held in high regard as well. We all live such busy and fast-moving lives that finding the time to be creative is hard. Being able to incorporate your creativity into your craft is a great way for you to discover yourself and your craft and what works best for you.

Solitary Eclectic Witch

Most of the time eclectic witches are solitary practitioners. Being able to follow your own rules over a group is one of the benefits of being eclectic. However, this is not always the case. Although it is not very common, there are groups and covens of eclectic witches. You might have to dive a little deeper than normal to find a coven in your area.

Can you be Eclectic and Wiccan?

I feel like this is a complicated question, but I am going to give you my honest answer. My answer is no. Now the reason I say that is because Wicca is a religion. And with religions, there are rules and guidelines that need to be followed. There is the Wiccan Rede that explains the rules of the religion. Even as a solitary Wiccan practitioner, there are still rules that need to be followed.

Wiccans worship Gods/ Goddesses as part of their religion. If you practice as an eclectic, you do not have to worship Gods/ Goddesses if you do not want to. If you do wish to work with the Gods, you have the freedom to choose whichever Gods/ Goddesses you may wish to work with. You may want to stick to a certain pantheon such as Egyptian or Norse. Or you may want to choose to work with one or two from each pantheon.

How to Start an Eclectic Path

Starting your journey as an eclectic witch is the easiest out of all of the witch types. The best place to start is to just start. It doesn’t matter where you begin. What are you most interested in learning about? Do some research on the witchy topics you are most interested in. Are there any current hobbies you are interested in that you can incorporate into your craft, such as cooking or gardening?

If you are having a hard time knowing where to start, here are a few basic things you can start looking into. Don’t feel like you have to learn everything in one day. Witchcraft is a journey and not a destination. Take your time learning something new. It is not a race and there is no finish line. Also, don’t feel like you need to learn everything. If astrology is not something you’re in to. Then don’t learn about it. There is no right or wrong way.

read your article. awesome. I’m a solitary. Nature pulls me. I think I’m in between Wiccan and Witch. I feel a pull. Don’t know what it is but it’s something. Does that sound stupid?

Not at all. You will find your path. The universe will tell you when you are ready. Trust the process and trust the journey.
