The moon has always had this feeling of power. And it certainly has that power when it comes to water. The moon controls the Earth’s tides, and some may say that it has a certain influence on us. Especially during a full moon. We are made up of about 60% water, so it makes sense that the moon may have some sort of influence over us. So how can we harness that power? Is it hard on how to make moon water? What steps need to be taken?
What is Moon Water?
Moon water is water contained in a vessel (preferably glass) that is left outside or in a windowsill with a clear view of the moon. The moon’s light touches the water and absorbs the energy the moon gives off.
When can I make moon water?
When you make moon water it can be done any night. Most prefer to make this specialty water during the full moon because many believe that it will give off the most energy. But in all honesty, you can make this during any lunar cycle.
If you choose to make your moon water during a different lunar phase besides the full moon, it is best to know the lunar phase correspondences. This will help you determine which lunar phase best matches up to your planned intentions.
Take it a step further and look into the astrology. Check what sign of the zodiac is associated with the lunar phase you have chosen. After finding out the zodiac sign, see the correspondences and see which works best with the intentions you have planned.
What do I need?
- A clear container
- Water
- Herbs and crystals (optional, see cautions below)
Steps on how to make moon water
- Know your intentions before hand
- Grab a clear container. This could be a mason jar, a glass bowl, old pickle jar, etc. A lid is recommended, but not necessary.
- Cleanse the container. If unsure how to cleanse an object, click here.
- Wash out container well, especially if you plan on drinking your moon water.
- Fill your container with water. Filtered or distilled is recommended. Tap water contains chemicals that may interfere with the final product.
- Place container outside with the lid on so no bugs or other critters can interfere with the water. If you are unable to place your container outside, a windowsill or a table next to a window will work just fine. Be sure this window gets some light from the moon’s rays.
- Sit with your container, look at the moon, and in your mind or out loud state your intentions and meditate on them for a minute or two.
- Let sit overnight and bring inside or remove from the window before sunlight.
Where to store?
Storing your magical water properly is as important as it is to make it. If not stored properly, you risk losing the magical properties. However, storing it is super simple. I recommend you storing your container in a dark place like inside a closet or a cabinet. Just do not forget that it is there. I know out of sight sometimes means out of mind for some. But using our charged water is the whole purpose of this process. So, if you are an out of sight out of mind kind of person, a specific cabinet meant only for your witchcraft purposes may be the best route. Or place a sticky note reminder on the cabinet door.
What can I do with moon water?
Many things can be done with your new jar of magic. From self-care to home care and many in between. The uses go as far as anything you can use water for.
- Drinking
- Facial Cleanse
- Cleansing
- Homemade Cleaning Products
- Ritual Baths
- Water Plants (my favorite use. Plants love it!)
- Make Tea
- Enhance Spell Work
Can I add to my moon water?
The content of your jar does not have to be just plain water. If you’re looking to enhance your magical water with a little something more, consider adding these to your next batch.
- Herbs (make sure they are safe to consume if you plan on drinking)
- Crystals (do your research and do not place any crystal in your container if it may be damaged by water or if it can make the water toxic. Especially if you plan on consuming the liquid.)
This is a simple witch practice that all beginner witches should know. Whether you use it consistently or just here and there, the knowledge on how to make moon water is now forever with you, your craft, and hopefully a page in your own Book of Shadows.
