The smell of freshly baked bread. Soup bubbling on the stove top. The sound of a knife chopping away on fresh vegetables and herbs. This is what a typical day of a kitchen witch looks like. Spending time in the kitchen, cooking healthy food for themselves and their family. However, I would like to say that you should not manifest your intentions or do spells on food that you are serving to others without their knowledge. Not everyone is open to the same ideals. You wouldn’t want someone force their practices on you.

What is a Kitchen Witch?

A kitchen witch or a hearth witch is someone who focuses their practices in the heart of the home. Cooking from scratch, cooking with fresh ingredients, and preserving their food. With every chop and every stir of the ladle, a kitchen witch pours their intentions into the food they prepare. When preparing dinner for the family, they may say a simple spell for the food to bring health to the family. You can set any intention into your food. This witch type may be more of a solo practice. But I bet there are covens out there. Cooking covens. Sounds yummy!

Origins

Much like the green witch and hedge witch, the kitchen witch can be dated back to the beginning of time. For as long as it has been since us as a species started cooking our food. The hearth has always been the heart of the home. The spot where families and friends gather. A way for people to be close to each other. To come together in times of celebration. Feasts have always been a way of celebration all throughout history.

Am I a Kitchen Witch?

I think everyone has some kitchen witch in them. Even if you think that you are no good at cooking, or that you burn everything, you can still be this witch type. Cooking is a skill that needs to be worked on and it takes time. The key is to never give up.

Kitchen Witch Practices

Cooking may be the primary practice, but it is not the only one. Here is a list of other practices a kitchen witch may also include in their practice.

  • Grow herbs
  • Start a garden
  • Source local food (farmer’s markets, butchers)
  • Raise chickens
  • Canning
  • Learn to smoke meats
  • Dry herbs and flowers

Intentions

What kind of intentions can actually be put into the food you prepare? To be honest, any kind. Anything you wish to manifest by using food. These things could be:

  • Love
  • Good Health
  • Luck
  • Protection
  • Weight Loss
  • Abundance
  • Healing
  • Happiness
  • Purification
  • Spirituality
  • Psychic Awareness

Kitchen Luck Charm

If cooking is intimidating, you’re having lack of confidence, or just feel like you need a little extra luck in the kitchen, this is the charm for you. You ready for it? It’s a Kitchen Witch! This charm resembles a small witch riding a broomstick that you hang in your kitchen. Inspiring productivity and safety, this poppet/ doll is said to bring in good luck as well as preventing pots from boiling dry and sauces from spilling.

The legend goes that if you hang up this poppet it will ward off bad spirits that may be causing mischief in your kitchen. Causing you to burn things and spill things. It may also make your breads and cakes rise, and your rice and beans will not burn. This precious doll is also said to bring good luck when gifted to a family member or friend.

Here is a poem that is associated with the Kitchen Witch Poppit:

Nothing spill; nothing spoils; overcooks; overboils; This kitchen witch upon her broom, brings love and luck to any room.
