What is a green witch? A green witch or a garden witch, is a witch that connects and works with nature. This type of witch uses plants, flowers and herbs in their magical workings. Their bond with nature is powerful and they not only connect to plants but to animals as well. Working with the ever-changing seasons and by the phases of the moon, a garden witch likes to work outside to feel more connected to the natural world. A green witch works with all of the elements, not just the earth. Air, fire and water are also a part of our natural world.

Origins

Although the origins of the green witch are unknown, it can be guessed that this type of witch has been around since the beginning of time. These witches were known way back when as healers, medicine men/ women, midwives, etc. These people were not called witches though. back in the day, these practices were just a normal thing. Foraging plants, berries, saps, etc. and using them to make herbal teas and medicines.

Am I a Green Witch?

I think we all have a little bit of green witch in us. Even if we kill plants and hate creepy crawlies that live outside, there is some part of us deep inside that craves the natural world. There is something about the thought of how the world was before huge cities, cars, roads, and all of the mega infrastructure that surrounds us today.

If you think you might be a green witch, ask yourself these questions and see if any or all relate to you.

  1. Do you like being outside in nature?
  2. Do you feel connected with the natural world?
  3. Do you find peace working with plants?
  4. Are you an enviromentalist?
  5. Are you interested in natural homemade remedies?

How many did you answer yes to? one, two, or all of them? Honestly, if you answered yes to even one of these, there may be a little green witch in you. You do not have to commit to being one type of witch. In fact, most witches are more than one type. We all have interests in different things and like to practice in more than one skill set. Depending on where a green witch lives, they may also be a cottage witch or a kitchen witch. If a green witch lives in a place that gets four seasons, they would be unable to do a lot of their workings during the cold season. Therefore would have to find ways to continue their practices inside.

How to become a Green Witch

There is so much that you can do as a green witch. The main thing you can do is also the easiest thing you can do. Are you ready? Just go outside. It’s that easy. It does not matter where you live, it does not matter where you go. Just be outside. Feel the sun on your skin. The breeze wisping by. If you are able to, I highly suggest taking off your shoes and walking in the grass, dirt, or sand. Grounding yourself is the best way to connect with the natural world. I recommend this for anyone. Not just green witches.

Green witches have a lot going on, especially during the spring, summer, and sometimes into fall. The time when it isn’t cold with snow on the ground. A time of planting seeds, growing plants, flowers, produce, and all the way into processing these things. But they can also get busy in the cold season with indoor projects as well. Homemade and homegrown!

What Does a Green Witch Do?

See if any interest you. Or are you already doing some of these?
